Volvo’s vision that by 2020 all their cars are going to be so secure that they will not lose one single life in traffic accidents seems entirely plausible, especially when the story involves the new Volvo XC90.
Human life in the first place since 1927
When we think what word would be an appropriate synonym for Volvo Cars, the word security unwillingly comes to our minds. This has always been the essence of Volvo, which actually comes from the commitment taken back in 1927. For their engineers and developers the human being and its life is the treasure that has no price. Therefore, they are trying to transport passengers in their cars as safely as possible.
In nearly nine decades, Volvo has become the global benchmark in terms of active and passive safety. In the world of motoring Volvo has in fact introduced a long list of safety innovations that have become universally respected standards. In a way there is part of Volvo in every car, that drives on the asphalt nowadays.
Windscreen that does not brake at impact, three-point safety belts in the front seats (introduced by Volvo back in 1959), and later added rear seat side protection system SIPS, ABS anti-lock brakes are only four inventions, which wear Volvo’s signature in its original.
And every time the road accepts a new Volvo model, the safety scale goes another step higher. For example, V40 model presented in 2012 still has the highest rating in the Euro NCAP crash test and from this perspective we can count it as the safest car in the world. Of course the tests have changed since then and still are changing through the years as new and safety improved vehicles are made but looking strictly at the grades this is definitely true.
Volvo XC90 excels in safety tests: the highest scores in Euro NCAP and US IIHS
Volvo XC90 has demonstrated that it is the first of the new Volvo models that share a common goal, to make sure that by 2020 nobody will die in a car accident. XC90 passed a recent Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) test with flying colors , where it received a five-star rating. In the individual categories it received 97 percent of the points for adult occupant safety, 87 percent of the points for the safety of children, 72 per cent of points on the safety of pedestrians and 100 percent of the points for the safety assistance systems.
Similarly excellent result was also measured by an independent US organization IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety). Volvo XC90 earned the highest possible safety code Top Safety Pick +. This outstanding achievements rank Volvo XC90 among the safest cars in the world.
