Renault Grand Scenic bets on crossover origin

The new generation Renault Scenic was already presented at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. Popular family MPV has got a lot more aggressive exterior lines, which, along the lines of the new Espace, became closer to crossover or SUV. The same obviously applies to the larger version of the Scenic, which will be available in versions with five or seven seats.

Compared with shorter Scenic having horizontally arranged rear lights, a bigger brother has its taillights placed upright, with three dimensional appearance. 2016 Renault Grand Scenic specialty is also a two-tone bodywork.

High level of equipment and solutions that we already know from recent Renault models

Compared with a classic Scenic, 2016 Renault Grand Scenic model is 24 centimeters longer and has a total of 718 liters of basic luggage compartment (40 liters more than the predecessor). Judging by the level of  equipment, Renault placed the new Grand Scenic fairly high in its vehicle class. For example, it has a serial security system to recognize pedestrians (from 7 to 60 kilometers per hour), tiredness detector, adaptive cruise control and reverse camera. Like its shorter version, Renault Grand Scenic will be fitted with 20-inch wheels as standard. Renault claims that such choice significantly affects the performance and travel comfort.

Inside no major surprises. 2016 Renault Grand Scenic has a vertical digital display (additional equipment) we know already from Espace, Talisman and Renault Mégane Hatch, extra charge security systems (radar cruise control, warning of the unintended change of the traffic lane …), customers will be also able to get a full panoramic window.

In the case of seven seats versions Renault Grand Scenic will also have an option to automatically fold the seats by pressing a single button, which again we know already from Espace. Backrest of the front passenger seat can be tipped forward to gain space for the transport of up to 2.85 meters long objects. Second-row seats are longitudinally movable in all versions and can be folded in a ratio of 1/3 – 2/3. From the newest Renault models, Grand Scenic 2016 has inherited the adaptive damping system multisense, 8.7-inch infotainment system R-Link, color “head-up” display and the like.

Engines in Renault Grand Scenic the same as in the classic Scénic, hybrid version also available

Grand Scenic will be powered by two petrol engines (TCe 115 and TCe 130) and three versions of diesel engines (dCi 110, dCi 130 and dCi 160). The dCi 110 engine will also have a hybrid option Hybrid Assist: it is a combination of an electric generator and a 48-volt battery, which generate electricity during braking. The electric motor then helps to improve the performance of the diesel engine.

Two engines (dCi 110 and dCi 130) will also be available with six-speed automatic transmission EDC.
