The new 2019 Audi A6 Avant is stepping in the big shoes of the predecessor. With the larger luggage compartment increases the usefulness of the new generation. Backed by Audi A8 technology and seductive lines, this is Audi’s top of the range estate in the premium caravan world.
New 2019 Audi A6 Avant: design and space hand in hand
The main advantage of the estate body shape is to offer you more interior space for luggage. But can it be beautiful? New A6 Avant 2019 seems to find the middle path. The gently sloping roofline is not the ideal option when searching for additional interior volume but certainly contributes to a more elegant look.
When all seats in place, the luggage compartment in new 2019 Audi A6 Avant offers 565 liters of basic volume (35 liters more than in limousine). Fold down the rear seats and you get up to 1,680 liters.
Compared to its main competitors, the luggage volume of the new Audi A6 Avant is the same as in Volvo V90, 5 liters smaller than in Jaguar XF Sportbrake, and 10 liters bigger than in BMW 5-Series Touring and Mercedes E-Class Estate.
At the same time, the new design plays a major role in efficiency. With a drag coefficient of 0.27, it certainly contributes to an even more economical ride.
Three big digital screens in the interior
There is nothing left to chance in the interior of the new Audi A6 Avant. High-quality materials and detailed ergonomics are, of course, part of this. Most striking are the three big digital screens.
If the model is equipped with MMI navigation plus system, there is a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Besides that, there is a 10.1-inch infotainment system in the center console and below it an 8.6-inch display for climate control and convenience features.
2019 Audi A6 Avant engines: a mild hybrid system in all models
Initially, a three-liter petrol engine TFSI V6, a two-liter, and three-liter diesel engine TDI will be available. Three-liter gasoline and two-liter diesel will be equipped with a 48-volt system with a lithium-ion battery (weighing around 25 kilograms) installed on the rear axle and a starter or generator in the front of the vehicle.
Between 55 and 160 kilometers per hour, this soft hybrid drive can turn off the engine, which happens also during braking and slowing down to a full stop.
On the other hand, the 3-liter TDI engine will use a 12-volt voltage system that does not have these functions. In both cases, these solutions are lowering CO2 emissions. A 48V system reduces CO2 emissions by ten grams per kilometer and a 12-volt system for four grams of CO2 per kilometer.
In practice, this will mean about 0.7 liters lower fuel consumption per hundred kilometers.
The release date of the new Audi A6 Avant is not known yet. We are looking forward to learning more in the next few months.
