American comedian Jerry Seinfeld will put up to auction 16 of his Porsches and two Volkswagen oldtimers. We are not sure how much all the listed vehicles are worth, since only three price estimates are known, but only those three out of 18 cars are totaling between 8.2 – 10.0 million US dollars. It look like this year is a good year for celebrities to sell off some of their precious cars. Not so long ago something similar happened to the Terminator’s Unimog.
UPDATE: the auction ended, read more HERE.
Comedian selling 16 of his Porsches
World famous American comedian Jerry Seinfeld is a passionate car enthusiast who also owns a valuable collection of vehicles. The American has now decided to make part of his auto collection available to other collectors by selling them. The auction, organized by the auction house Gooding & Company, is going to take place in Amelia Island on Friday, March 11th. Seinfeld will sell 16 of its more or less old Porsches plus two oldtimer VWs.
Seinfeld comment: “… to see the look of excitement on the faces of the next owners…”
“Each one of these cars is a pinnacle of mechanical culture to me. Many are the best examples that exist in the world,” stated Jerry Seinfeld. “I’ve loved being entrusted with their care, and I’m proud of the level to which we have brought each and every one of these wonderful machines. Honestly, if I had unlimited time, space and attention span I would never sell one of them. And the reason I wanted to bid these cars farewell in this way is really just to see the look of excitement on the faces of the next owners who I know will be out of their minds with joy that they are going to get to experience them. My enthusiasm for this pursuit remains quite insane and I am very fortunate to have many other cars I get to look after.” (Source: Gooding & Company Press release)
Seinfeld probably does not need money, since his property is estimated at 800 million dollars. And he also left a few Porsches to himself, because his collection is somewhere around 50 cars of this German sports car brand.
Auction House published price estimates for three models (listed below), other estimates are available upon request:
- 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 IROC RSR estimate: $1,200,000 – $1,500,000
- 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder estimate: $5,000,000 – $6,000,000
- 1958 Porsche 356 A 1500 GS/GT Carrera Speedster estimate: $2,000,000 – $2,500,000
There are quite a few Porsche gems in this auction list, like 1959 Porsche 718 RSK and 1973 Porsche 917/30 Can-Am Spyder. And two models, best known for the unfortunate death of celebrities. Not the exact cars, but the same model. The first one is 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder (the same model, silver color) was fatal for James Dean and Porsche Carrera GT, which was the last ride (as passenger) of Paul Walker. Again, not the auctioned car, only the same model.
