Seinfeld earned 22 million bucks from 17 cars

Jerry Seinfeld Porsches sold

The famous American comedian Jerry Seinfeld sold a part of his automotive collection last weekend in Florida. At Amelia Island Auction, he managed to sell 15 examples from his huge Porsche collection and two vintage Volkswagen’s and earned a total of 22,000,000 US dollars.

The auction was 94% successful

As we wrote a while ago, Jerry Seinfeld decided to put up for an auction a part of his Porsche collection, along with two older Volkswagen cars. He listed 16 Porsche’s (see the complete list here) plus two VW’s, together 18 cars. Can you guess how many cars have been sold? 17. The only car from the auction listing that will stay in Jerry’s garage is a 2000 Porsche Carrera GT, which was listed for around 2 million US dollars.

On the other hand, 1964 Volkswagen Camper went for 99 thousand dollars.

Do you still remember the reason of selling? No?

Many people were not sure why Jerry would even think about selling this precious German sports car manufacturer jewels. Some thought about some kind of financial problems. Since his wealth is estimated at around 800 million dollars, this is not the case. Well, the answer came from Jerry himself:

“Each one of these cars is a pinnacle of mechanical culture to me. Many are the best examples that exist in the world,” stated Jerry Seinfeld. “I’ve loved being entrusted with their care, and I’m proud of the level to which we have brought each and every one of these wonderful machines. Honestly, if I had unlimited time, space and attention span I would never sell one of them. And the reason I wanted to bid these cars farewell in this way is really just to see the look of excitement on the faces of the next owners who I know will be out of their minds with joy that they are going to get to experience them. My enthusiasm for this pursuit remains quite insane and I am very fortunate to have many other cars I get to look after.” (Source: Gooding & Company Press release)

Good and noble work, Mr. Seinfeld. We are sure you will still have a lot of fun with your remaining 30+ Porsche examples (est.) in your garage.
