2016 Volvo S90 is a business sedan with many elements of the XC90 SUV. S90 is available only with four-cylinder engines, but also with the hybrid edition. Volvo S90 is coming on the road in spring 2016.
The new 2016 Volvo S90 equivalent to the German trio?
Volvo is continuing its efforts to connect to a leading German trio on the global market of premium vehicles. The new Volvo S90 could become one of the key cars of this breakthrough because it represents a direct competitor of German business sedans such as the BMW 5-Series, Audi A6 and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. In a broader view, the similar mission stands before Jaguar XF and Lexus GS. Will they succeed? Surely this is not an easy task.
Limousine with elements of the new XC90
Volvo promises the new S90 to be stylish and functional. Design is more elegant than we were accustomed from their cars in the latest period. At first glance we spot pronounced short overhangs, especially from the front wheels, as well as the long bonnet, slightly coupe-like roofline and short rear end.
Many of the highlights of 2016 Volvo S90 are otherwise similar with the new crossover XC90, which also applies to the interior of the car. Inside, we find the carefully selected materials and vertical digital screen of the infotainment system.
Farewell to the six- and five cylinder engines, welcome hybrid powertrain
The new Volvo S90 will no longer offer a six- or five-cylinder engines, but only a 2-liter four-cylinder. In petrol versions, the power ranges from 250 to 320 horsepower, and in diesel from 190 to 225 horsepower.
There will be a plug-in hybrid version, which will consist of a gasoline engine and an electric motor on the rear axle. The total system power will amount to 400 horsepower. The car will of course also be equipped with all modern security-assistance systems. Among these will be a system for semi-automatic driving, improved system to drive around the city and a warning system against collisions with large animals.
The new Volvo S90 will be formally introduced in January 2016 at the Detroit Motor Show, on the road will be available in April 2016. The estate version, V90, will follow in summer 2016.
