The main new feature of the renewed 2016 Volkswagen Up! is a three-cylinder 1-liter petrol engine with a turbocharger. Up! got just enough refreshment that it will continue to fall into the top of the small city car class. The car is already on its way to Geneva Motor Show where it will be available for viewing from March 1st onwards.
The focus of the 2016 Volkswagen Up! facelift revolves around the new engine
Volkswagen’s city toddler, who also got his Skoda and Seat’s less successful implementation, significantly changed the small city car class five years ago. Up! raised the expected quality level for this type of vehicles much higher than it was before. Since the competition is not resting, Volkswagen prepared a facelift for its model.
Up! 2016 got a little refreshed exterior with a new front bumper which has an integrated fog lights. Daytime running LED lights are now a part of the headlights. 2016 Volkswagen Up! buyers will be offered even more individual flexibility than before, since it will be available in 13 different colors and also with three different roof colors.
New VW Up! 1.0 TSI engine with three cylinders
The main novelty of the new Up! is the new 1-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine. Its predecessor had an atmospheric engine, but now some help from turbocharger arrived. TSI engine will provide Up! 90 horsepower and 160 Nm of torque from 1,500 rpm onwards.
The performance of the new engine is expectedly better than before. 2016 Volkswagen Up! 1.0 TSI runs from 0 to 100 kilometers (0-62 mph) in ten seconds and reaches a top speed of 185 kilometers per hour (115 mph). Its consumption is around 4.4 liters of gasoline per 100 km (53.6 miles per gallon) while its carbon footprint is 102 grams of CO2 / km.
Inside, the changes are only a few. For the first time Up! will be available with multifunction steering wheel, infotainment interface will allow connection to the phone via USB cable or Bluetooth connection. To facilitate communication Volkswagen will also offer a special application for new Up! owners. Drivers and passengers will be able to enjoy the music, which will be provided through a 300-watt Beats Audio sound system with 7 speakers.
