Mercedes revealed all the intelligence of its newest pride, 2016 Mercedes E-Class. New E-Class will be the most advanced and safest Mercedes ever made. It will surely satisfy even the most eco oriented customers. The promised consumption is set at 3.9 liters per hundred kilometers.
This is the tenth generation of Mercedes E-Class business limousine. Compared to predecessor it has grown by 4.3 centimeters in lenght (492 cm), 6.5 cm longer wheelbase (294 cm) will for sure offer even more interior space for passengers. The car promises an army of technological innovation and excellent ambience. External appearance, however, remains suitable to the model. Very modern and at the same time properly moderate.
New E-Class is full of sensual purity. Its character will be defined by two different from masks. Classical with three horizontal bars and the star on the nose is going to be reserved for entry and exclusive models. The second is the more sporty one with the two cross-beams and a large logo of Mercedes star, integrated into the mask.
The biggest impression at the rear end are LED taillights with a stardust effect. Mercedes says this is “reminiscent the Milky Way or the glow of a jet engine”. The remarkable and praiseworthy is its low drag coefficient. With the value of only 0.23 this is one of the most aerodynamic road car ever made.
2017 Mercedes E-Class is the safest Mercedes ever
Yes, the new 2016 Mercedes E-class is for sure the safest Mercedes so far. Probably this will be the case for all the further models in the future, but currently this achievement belongs to this E-Class.
Pilot Drive – autopilot with part-time employment
Mercedes pilot Drive is the next step towards realizing the vision of a fully autonomous vehicle. This is an upgrade of the active smart cruise control. E-Class will be able to follow the vehicle in front of you at speeds of up to 210 kilometers per hour even without lane markings. It will also help to control the steering of the vehicle despite the fact that the driver will be holding the steering wheel. Electronically controlled assistance will carefully monitor the behavior of surrounding vehicles. At the same time the sensor will notice all the parallel structures on the road, like obstacles for the purpose of work on the road. The vehicle speed will be automatically regulated in relation to speed limit road signs or according to the data provided by the navigation system.
Active Lane Change Assist
With this system activated and whenever the driver holds the turn signal for at least 2 seconds the car will be able to automatically change lanes. This will be possible through vehicle’s cameras and radar sensors that will constantly detect cars and other obstacles in the way. Active Brake Assist sensors will detect cross traffic at intersections and will automatically brake in the case of driver inattention.
There are many more safety assist and other technological goodies, like Evasive Steering Assist, Remote Parking Pilot, Crosswind Assist, the system that will recognise the driver tiredness, PRE-SAFE impulse side, PRE-SAFE sound, Multibeam LED headlamps, Car-to-X Communication and many more.
Like the class S – two large screens for digital luxury
Judging by the photos the cabin upgrades the already-known Mercedes S-Class luxury. There are two big digital screens placed next to each other (unfortunatelly not as standard equipment but anyway). The first one replaces the classical instrument panel in digital form. The second one is, unlike competitors, integrated into the dashboard and also has a luxurious measurement (more than 31 centimeters or 12.3 inches in diagonal). This one will provide details of the vehicle’s information center. The standard E-Class versions will get traditional analogue dashboard and an 8.4 inch screen for the purpose of central infotainment system.
Touch screen surface will be also integrated into steering wheel, for the first time on a large scale production vehicle. A great solution for managing the infotainment system without the need for the withdrawal of sight from the road. The cabin will be full of high quality materials and imaginative color combinations. Ambient LED interior lighting will offer the choice of 64 different colors.
Diesel engine with 3.9-liter consumption, hybrid version on its way
At the very beginning of sale the new 2016 Mercedes E-Class will be available with two engine options.
Two-liter petrol four-cylinder with 135 kilowatts and 5.9-liter consumption and a completely new, mostly aluminum 2-liter four-cylinder diesel, which will replace the 2.2-liter predecessor. The 143-kilowatt of power is the entry point to the world of diesel engines. Shorter and more compact than the predecessor promises a 3.9-liter consumption and only 102 grams of CO2 per kilometer.
The near future promises obligatory extension of engine options. In the spirit of current automotive trends we will have E350e Plug-in Hybrid with a 30-kilometer electric range and a combined system output of 205 kW (275 horse power) and maximum 443 lb-ft of torque. Then there will be a 3-liter V6 diesel engine with an output of 190 kW (258 HP). Mercedes has also announced a smaller diesel with 110 kilowatts or 150 horse power for the E200d option.
On the petrol engine front we are promised to get a variety of four-cylinder turbo charged engines ranging from 183 to 245 HP. The next step is six-cylinder with 333 HP and the top of the range is of course E 63 AMG beast equiped with the new 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, offered in two versions, with around 600 hp for the top version S.
Luxury comfort backed up with air suspension
Serial E will be equipped with a classic, three-stage adjustable suspension. But a step forward in terms of comfort and sportiness is again prepared by engineers responsible for air suspension.
Rear axle will accommodate the absorbers with three differently sized air chambers, while the front with two. Adaptability to driving conditions will be improved with automatical adjustment of each shock absorber. Mercedes E-Class with air suspension will automatically control the ground distance of the vehicle depending on the type of surface.
2016 Mercedes E-Class price and release dates
The limousine option announced for March 2016 will be followed by T-Model in mid 2016, Coupe is coming in March 2017 and Convertible in September 2017.
Pricing for the new E-Class is expected to be around 50.000 USD / EUR for the entry model. Equiped with six-cylinder diesel engine will cost you around 15.000 EUR more. More details are expected very soon.
