The Indian vehicle manufacturer Mahindra offered a new small SUV to the domestic market. With the introduction of the new model KUV100, Mahindra also represents a new generation of mFalcon engines.
Mahindra is one of the largest car manufacturers in India, besides Tata and Maruti Suzuki. The main objective of Mahindra is growth and expansion. A few years ago, they bought a Korean manufacturer Ssangyong, known for their SUVs and the powerful four-wheel drive. For a more beautiful design they turned towards Italians and at the end of last year (2015) bought the famous design studio Pininfarina. Design is one of those aspects Mahindra will pay more attention in the future, that is for sure.
The design of Mahindra KUV100 is the result of the Indian knowledge
KUV100 SUV is created in a much more dynamic way in comparison with predecessors. However, since the purchase of Pininfarina happened just a while ago, the design of Mahindra KUV100 is the result of their in-house designers in Chennai.
Did you know? The correct pronunciation of the name KUV100 is KUV “1 double Oh”.
Completely new mFalcon engines for KUV100
Both engines that will run Mahindra KUV100 are completely new, modern, downsized and based on a lightweight construction. The new engine family is named after the bird with Mahindra (m) prefix, mFALCON.
The first one is 1.2-liter petrol engine with 82 bhp and 115 Nm of torque. The second option is a 1.2-liter turbo-charged diesel engine with 77 bhp and 190 Nm of torque.
Both engine types are equipped with 5-speed manual transmission and in both cases the engine power is delivered to the front wheels only.
If we look at Mahindra KUV100 dimensions, then this car belongs to a completely new vehicle segment. It looks like an SUV, but it measures only 3675 mm in length. Mini SUV? In our opinion Mahindra KUV100 has all the attributes to attract young sociable people. It has modern and sporty styling, a popular SUV appearance, it has the option to accommodate 6 people if needed (3 in front and 3 in the back), it has new and fuel efficient engines and above all, it is quite cheap. The price of Mahindra KUV100 starts at Rs. 4.42 lakh for basic petrol engine option and goes up to Rs. 6.76 lakh, which is equivalent to 6,500 – 10,000 USD.
