The saying “you get what you pay for” is usually reserved for people who are prepared to pay as low price as possible and expect an outstanding quality. And of course fail. But is it possible to turn this saying around? Is it possible to pay a lot of money, get great quality and not fail doing that? In case of 2016 BMW 640d Gran Coupe xDrive, we can only say: absolutely.

BMW 6-series hit the roads in 2003 as a classic coupe and convertible with a soft top. In 2012 four-door version of the Gran Coupe joined in. BMW says that this is still a coupe (that is why they call it Gran Coupe), even though many people share the opinion that coupe can only be a car with a curved roof and single pair of doors. Bavarians are satisfied, even more, they also offer a smaller model in such a body style now. Of course, in the case of the 6-series, there is also a question of prestige.

BMW 640d Gran Coupe is long, but perfect only for two

It has a long bonnet, spacious cabin (front part) and a relatively large trunk, which can be also increased with folding rear backrests. Perfect? Actually not, because there is too little room in the rear seats for a car with such a big length. But then again, of course, here is the question of prestige and purpose.

BMW 640d Gran Coupe xDrive is more than ideal for driver and passenger, and for those behind… Well, almost no one buys such a car for transporting the family. And in case of only two passengers it is more than excellent. And what a ride this is! With a length of more than five meters and a wheelbase nearly three meters long, BMW 640d Gran Coupe is clearly not afraid of fast motorway speeds, but it is also very (very, very) convincing on the winding road. In doing so, the car has a bunch of very helpful, reliable and technically advanced assistants. There is an exceptionally good chassis, big and strong diesel engine, four-wheel drive and an excellent eight-speed automatic transmission.

One of the best engines in class

3-liter six-cylinder in-line diesel engine with 313 horsepower and enormous 630 Nm of torque is one of the best in class, and therefore has no problems with the ‘moving’ of almost two-ton car, whether it’s just accelerating from traffic light to traffic light or to achieve the maximum speed. Which clearly has to be limited to 250 kilometers per hour.

A great four-wheel drive is especially helpful when starting off, but it turns out great on curvy road too. With all the superlatives that affluent such a car, it is necessary to point out the fuel consumption. When showing off to your friends or new girlfriend, the engine will require more than 10 liters per 100 kilometers, but on the other hand, in normal driving, only six or seven liters of diesel fuel will be enough for the same distance. If there was the gasoline engine under the bonnet, the owner would only dream of such fuel consumption.

If you can afford BMW 640d Gran Coupe xDrive, we say go for it

Just like most people on Earth can only dream of owning such a car. Even with a base price of a little under 100 thousand euros BMW 640d Gran Coupe xDrive is inaccessible. And then there is a long and never ending list of additional equipment, which can easily raise the price of this BMW for more than 30 thousand. Imagine what you can get for the price of this equipment. A brand new mid size car.

What we have often written before, it is also true in this case. If the car is expensive and also offering us a lot of pleasure and satisfaction, there is not much to complain about. The world around us is full of differences. And if someone just has the option to buy something a lot of people can not afford, it should be completely ok, we say go for it. Therefore, we can safely say that BMW 640d xDrive Gran Coupe customer will not get a good car, but an excellent car.
