2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray review – most powerful Corvette ever

Chevrolet Corvette seventh generation
The seventh generation Corvette impressed with its aggressive and dynamic look.

With the seventh generation of Corvette Chevrolet revives the name from the sixties. 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray calls for the past, but with modern aluminum design and flexibility offers a modern sports car.

This classic American automotive icon was the brightest star of the 2013 Detroit Motor Show.

The seventh generation Chevrolet Corvette impressed with its aggressive and dynamic look. Although the exterior is very modern and not so retro it still got a legendary name Stingray. Justified or just because Chevrolet is so proud of this model?

The seventh generation of the most famous American sports car is with a 450 horsepower 6.2-liter V8 engine the most powerful Corvette in the 60-year history of this cult brand. With a very aggressive exterior, especially rear of the car, it has a modern aluminum design. Corvette wants to give with its exterior a view of its past while under the bonnet offers the most powerful engine in addition to the most technically sophisticated sports car in the history of the model.

The completely new design of the vehicle is the most important factor for the success of the new Corvette. The aluminum replaces steel. Therefore the 2014 Stingray Corvette is 57-percent torsionally harder and much lighter than the predecessor. The bonnet from carbon fiber and some parts of the chassis made of composite materials are another addition to reducing the total mass of the vehicle.

Sports car who wants to combine the past with the present

Due to its impressive performance, this will probably be the most common view on the new Corvette.

Chevrolet revived the name Stingray because of the connection to the legendary 1963 Sting Ray. The new Corvette is now more technologically advanced and larger in dimension. Its length is 4.49, width 1.87 and height of 1.23 meters. It looks like a classic Corvette at first glance and I think this is the only right thing to do.

Already mentioned engine is combined with six-speed automatic transmission with shift paddles on the steering wheel or the new seven-speed manual gearbox. Although the volume of the new engine is downsized from 7.0 to 6.2 liters compared to the previous generation it will have the same performances and better efficiency. The driver can choose between five different driving settings and is able to monitor 12 different vehicle behavior attributes.

Seventh and sixth generation Corvette share only two components

The design of the chassis is shared with the previous Corvette but actually, there are only two exactly the same equal parts. Chevrolet promises an ideal 50:50 mass distribution and five times harder steering mechanism with electric power steering.

New Corvette’s progress is also reflected in the interior which is more prestigious and sophisticated as before. The driver and his companion will enjoy the additions of hand-stitched leather and accessories made from carbon fiber and aluminum. The instrument panel has two 8-inch touch screens, the seat frames are made of magnesium.

Retro enough to be called a stingray?

Retro enough to be called a stingray? Probably.

Stingray is a synonym for the second and third Corvette generation that Chevrolet manufactured from 1963 until 1976.

The second generation design is made by a Bill Mitchell team. At that time Chevrolet did not cooperate in races with the official factory supported vehicle but they sponsored the race car named Mitchell Sting Ray. This has had the greatest impact on the design of the second generation Corvette.

Stingray presented the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray Coupe. It had hidden headlights, virtual cooling holes on the engine bonnet and double rear window. Maximum power of the 1963 Corvette was 360 HP.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Price

2014 Corvette Stingray price starts at around 54,000 USD. The prices have risen in March 2014 due to high demand which exceeded initial expectations.

Based on the production data released by General Motors this is the only logical decision. Chevrolet is currently producing almost three times as many C7 Corvettes than it did the C6.

Callaway study of shooting brake Corvette

If Corvette enthusiasts are looking for additional space, Callaway Cars company is known for their aftermarket performance products. They want to offer greater functionality and a new dimension to the 2014 Stingray Corvette model. The extended roof, more space for passengers in the interior and interesting and unusual exterior design are the main features of their latest study.

If there will be enough interest on the market Callaway will produce additional packages for 2014 Stingray makeover. Since the use of body accessories made from lightweight carbon fiber is planned, the car will be able to reach the top speed of 200 mph (320 km/h).

The estimated price for the complete upgrade of your Chevrolet Corvette Stingray should not exceed 12,000 USD.
