2013 McLaren P1 Review
2013 McLaren P1

The serial hybrid supercar 2013 McLaren P1 which offers superior performance and aerodynamic package at the level of Formula 1 car has been revealed. Only 375 cars will be made.

In this 2013 McLaren P1 Review you can find pictures, live world debut video, specifications, top speed and price tag.

It was presented at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show from director of McLaren Ron Dennis in March 2013. I believe that this car would receive a lot more attention if in this show Ferrari had not presented their latest model LaFerrari.

P1 has a 903 “horses” and 980 Nm of torque

Serial version of P1 is almost identical to the study presented in 2013. The hybrid powertrain provides 3.8-liter V8 engine with a power of 727 “horses” and 720 Nm torque and additional electric motor with 176 “horses” and 260 Nm of torque. Can you calculate the total power? P1 will have 903 “horses” and 980 Nm of torque.

McLaren P1 can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in less than three seconds, from 0 to 300 kilometers per hour in less than 17 seconds. This is nine seconds faster than their F1 supercar from the 90′s. Top speed is limited to 350 kilometers per hour.

Despite extreme sports performance McLaren P1 will have only 200 grams of carbon footprint per kilometer. Compliments worthy achievement, isn’t it?

The faster you drive, the easier it is to drive!

Long-awaited successor to the McLaren F1 will represent a road approximation of Formula 1 racing car. Which applies to both performance of the hybrid powertrain and available aerodynamic package. For a small number of serial cars we can say: “The faster you ride, the easier it is to drive!”, but McLaren ensures that P1 will be able to provide just that.

Assistance button on the steering wheel in the style of Formula 1

The driver will have a button on the steering wheel called IPAS (instant power assist system), which will immediately provide the full power of the electric motor and will work like KERS system in Formula 1 racing.

The parallels of McLaren P1 and formula 1 car can be drawn even in aerodynamics. The driver will be using the button on the steering wheel to cut the angle of the rear air stabilizer by 23 percent, thereby increasing the stability and the possibility of achieving higher speeds.

P1 can provide 600 kg vacuum, which is comparable with the number of cars racing at Le Mans.

McLaren P1 is able to travel nearly 10 kilometers only on electric engine

Although McLaren is a sports car made especially for use on the racetrack owners can also drive it using only the electric motor. The battery which is charged by the engine (and can be fully recharged in two hours at home power grid) is providing about 10 kilometers of range.

Although the interior is racing oriented the driver will still be able to use air conditioning, satellite navigation and excellent audio system. Very thin carbon seats inclination is standardly set at 28 degrees.

Birds will be impressed too.

Customers want exclusivity. Only 375 McLaren P1 cars will be made costing almost one million euros each.

Although McLaren originally planned to build 500 copies of P1, the number is now reduced to 375. Potential buyers are more interested in cars exclusivity than its price and performance.

Price for P1 will start at 860 thousand euros and is direct rival to Ferrari Enzo successor, which was also officially launched at 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

Unfortunately, all 375 cars are already sold out, but the queue is nevertheless still increasing. Rich potential buyers are hoping that any of the 375 lucky buyers will not be able to raise enough money to buy a car and will withdraw from the contract.

McLaren P1 GTR – version for the racetrack

McLaren P1 GTR

Racetrack version is called McLaren P1 GTR.

McLaren intends to send to the market and racecourses noble P1 GTR racing version, which is not constrained by road regulations like original P1.

Due to the exclusive use on the racetrack designers can more freely unleash their imagination. In comparison with the road legal P1 they further improved aerodynamic properties of the car, handling and engine performance. P1 GTR version should be ready for sale within a year (in 2015).

Distance between front wheels is 80 millimeters wider, spoiler is acting more aggressive, the airflow around the brakes and wheels is optimized. Suspension is adapted for use on the racetrack, 19-inch wheels are designed for the quick-change in pits. The rear spoiler on P1 GTR is fixed so they can avoid installing a mechanism for active rectifier like on the road version.

The heart of this racing car is a 3.8-liter V8 engine with Twin Turbo, capable of round 1,000 horsepower (735 kilowatts).

If you missed the oportunity to buy sold out road version of McLaren P1 and think you can become a proud owner of GTR, well, I have some bad news for you. Mclaren P1 GTR is exclusively available only for buyers of road version. Price? 2.3 million EUR (over 3.0 million USD).
